Poog's family - I know at a meeting this morning, people were fighting over the "ducks" vs. the "beavers" but I think that was football.

Dr. Liz - Joyce, what did you feel were the major insights or learnings shared or learned at the HHDL conference? Please share!

joyce and kitties - The educators are finally trying some innovative approaches to support children in their learning.
Dr. Liz - GG, Manuel does have that energy, doesn't he?
Dr. Liz - HHDL = His Holiness the Dalai Lama
joyce and kitties - One educator was a Native Indian from Canada
Dr. Liz - Joyce is a devotee.
joyce and kitties - and his was a very loving approach to education
joyce and kitties - It was the concept of the whole villiage is responsible for the children
Dr. Liz - What were the specific suggestions? The most loving approach I've ever seen to education, I saw in Bali.
GirlyGirls - Yes, he does (Manuel).
Dr. Liz - Joyce, that's a VERY old concept ... "it takes a village to raise a child".
joyce and kitties - The biggest AHA I had is that they recognized that as a country we all see children as a "problem" until they grow and are self-supporting
joyce and kitties - the kids are picking up that "negative" energy
Dr. Liz - Joyce, that may be regional. We don't see children as problems here. We see them as incarnations of possibility and light.
joyce and kitties - The US Secretary of Education was supposed to attend the conference
joyce and kitties - he was called away by the violent incident that happend to a student in Chicago.
Poog's family - I think I read about that incident
joyce and kitties - Well Liz, we are among like minded souls here
Dr. Liz - What I loved about the Balinese approach to education, is that they educate the spirit first, then the body, then the mind.
joyce and kitties - but I see and hear many parents just complaining about their kids
joyce and kitties - they don't seem to be able to see the positive side of the kids
GirlyGirls - I agree with Liz, I am an educator, and don't find I deal with an overall consciousness of children as a problem. .
joyce and kitties - There was one educator who took an interesting approach
GirlyGirls - I'm in a different world, no one I know complains about their kids. .
joyce and kitties - he asked the kids what was their "Spark"?
Dr. Liz - So every day in a Balinese school, has time spent in dance, art, music, hand-crafts, chanting and worship, exercise, and the basic subjects of reading, math, history, language skills, etc,
joyce and kitties - The spark was suppose to be something they are really interested in. Something that brings immense joy in their life.
Dr. Liz - My wusband was an educator, too, and he, too, saw children as possibilities.
Dr. Liz - GG, same here.
Dr. Liz - The kids in Bali start at 8:00 in the morning, and end at 5:30 in the afternoon. And they leave school happy, fulfilled, and refreshed.
Dr. Liz - That's what caught my attention and first made me want to learn more ... I saw the kids leaving at 5:30 and wondered why they were so happy, fulfilld, and refreshed ...
GirlyGirls - The only thing I see that concerns me is the children seem to be so overscheduled with so many activities, I'm not sure they have the breathing room to experience being drawn strongly toward a particular study/path in which to excel.
joyce and kitties - Liz, did u meet any of the teachers?
Dr. Liz - Joyce, three of them, yes.
joyce and kitties - I bet some of them had that same loving, caring, nuturing energy like the Buddhist nun from Thailand in your DVD.
Dr. Liz - Joyce, I also felt the spark with the children when we were in India. There, too, children are taught meditation and yoga along with the main-stream subjects. Spirit came first ... through meditation and yoga. Those children were wonderful.
Dr. Liz - Joyce, very much so.
joyce and kitties - yes GG I agree. There is no time left to be a child. It is stifling competitiveness
Dr. Liz - And the music teacher for the children in India, was exactly like my wusband ... very involved, very passionate, very "into" the kids and their joy of music.
GirlyGirls - The Quaker schools used to have more of that, but have bent to assimilate the corporate lifestyle for children.
joyce and kitties - The Indian parents I have observed have a lot of patience.
GirlyGirls - Stifling competitiveness. . .I appreciate the expression
Dr. Liz - Patience is certainly a form of love expressed.

Dr. Liz - Perhaps it is so, that the less anxiety someone has, the more patience that someone has.

joyce and kitties - Liz, my feline kids are doing energy balancing
joyce and kitties - all of them are strategically placed around the house.
GirlyGirls - I would agree with that. I have noticed the upside of my brain injury is I don't have the worry and anxiety I once had, and it's amazing how much easier it is to be happy/joyous when not worrying about every little thing.

Dr. Liz - There's another aspect to it, which actually relates to our topic tonight. When you believe that the Universe is inherently good, and find good in everything, you draw more good.

GirlyGirls - Absolutely. . .and too often that is programmed out of us at a young age by our family dynamic!!
Poog's family - Everyone at my house without opposible thumbs is asleep.
Dr. Liz - Or more correctly when you transcend the belief in good and bad, and rejoyce in all that is for the very is-ness of it, you draw more good.
GirlyGirls - or at the very least, strongly suppressed.

GirlyGirls - Liz that's where I have been for months!! It's been wonderful. Then something disturbed my energy flow in the last week, and I don't know what did!
GirlyGirls - HOld on, Fannie is venturing downstairs, and I don't want her to get in an argument with Fergus
Dr. Liz - GG, I had the same thing happen this week ... something disturbed my energy flow big time ... I, too, don't know what it was/is.
Dr. Liz - I seem to be having some growing pains here, in embracing the belief that everything is good. I'm having a bit of trouble letting go of the belief that some things just may be bad... like, animal abuse, drug addictions, etc.
joyce and kitties - Liz, Tonglen is good pratice to get rid of negativity
Dr. Liz - And a part of me has the thought, "Well, one way of controlling us totally as human beings, is to have us be blissfully happy all the time, and then we won't care about anything that happens since we'll be blissful."
Poog's family - Some things just *are* aren't they? Neither good nor bad -- sort of "what is, is?"
joyce and kitties - The bad things happen out of ignorance
joyce and kitties - But HHDL would still say you need to speak out
Dr. Liz - Poog ... from the spiritual perspective, EVERYTHING is that way ... what is, is.
Dr. Liz - Joyce, yes, HHDL has been such a brilliant role model for me ... he rejoices in the is-ness of the moment in its full expression ... and when I have that focus too, which I have more and more and more, I know exactly what Rumi means about the "field beyond wrongdoings and rightdoings".
Poog's family - That perspective keeps us from railing against those things we can't fix -- which is lots of stuph.
GirlyGirls - Liz, I felt the same way about the energy flow. . .something. . do you have any thoughts, seemed to descend on me midweek last week.
Dr. Liz - I seem to be experiencing some last shreds of resistance to letting go of judgement and replacing it with conscious awareness.
joyce and kitties - Yes just the thought of him makes one joyful .... one imbides in his energy.

joyce and kitties - Well the one thing is that there is no quick fix
GirlyGirls - I've felt emotional, accepting that someone/somethings are bad and it simply is the way it is, and I have to release it, without judgement, and without the pain of wanting to correct it.
Dr. Liz - I'm not even sure WHY I'm resisting letting go of judgement ... maybe 'cause it's such a life-long, ingrained habit ...

GirlyGirls - I have to release the pain of the injury it has caused me, and my wanting to find out it really isn't so, or correct it to find a happy resolution. . . hard to explain
joyce and kitties - some westerner asked what was the quickest path to enlightenment.
Dr. Liz - Joyce, I'm definitely doing the spiritual work ... I have been meditating extremely successfully now for at least 30 minutes a day and sometimes 60 minutes a day for almost two months ...
Dr. Liz - The HHDL cried????
joyce and kitties - Yes.
Dr. Liz - So perhaps what's going on now is the final eradication of life-long patterns of "stinkin' thinking" ...
joyce and kitties - It is said he is not afraid to show his feelings.
GirlyGirls - I remember, many years ago, when going through a difficult time, I went into a beautiful level, and saw a magnificent sunset, so brilliant, so colorful, . . .and at the base of this magnificent skyscape was a dark imprint, which was my pain over a situation in my life. . .and the interior voice said, "Nellie, I have given you all of this (I could feel/intuit the vastness of the picture before me). . .it is yours for the taking. . .and you insist on making this one small part of the picture the entire picture for you." WAKE UP CALL!!
Dr. Liz - Joyce ... it's beyond "not afraid to show his feelings" for him ... he rejoices in his feelings, and feels them fully, expressing himself fully, and enjoying the full expression ... from what I've seen and experienced ...
joyce and kitties - Remember, there are times when Tibetans who have escape come over and have an audience with him. There he finds out all the hardships his people have under gone. So when appropriate he shows his sadness
Dr. Liz - In other words, the HHDL doesn't judge his feelings ... he just has them.
GirlyGirls - I don't agree with folks that want to divest of emotions. . .we were created with the same beauty of shadows and light that surround us. Part of who we are. Emotions are a gift!
joyce and kitties - But HHDL does not dwell in sadness... he lets it go. And continues to fight for the Tibetan cause.
Dr. Liz - So ... are we clueless, if we believe that everything is good? that everything is beautiful, whether we in that moment can see it that way, or not?
joyce and kitties - HHDL has stated he is a Feminist!

Dr. Liz - If we truly love everything that is, are we clueless?
GirlyGirls - Being a feminist sounds like a judgement to me!

Dr. Liz - I actually meant my question ... if we truly believe that everything is good, does that mean we are clueless? Who has a thought on that?

Dr. Liz - The great spirtual mystics have been saying that for decades ... that the planet needs to come into balance with the male and female energy.

joyce and kitties - however we are here in this earth plane and there are numerous people of different levels of consciousness
GirlyGirls - No, it doesn't mean we are clueless, I believe we must have discernment, that is a spiritual practice unto itself.
Dr. Liz - It's a western problem .... we have much to much male energy here ... not all countires or areas of the world do ...
joyce and kitties - while in the end all will be enlightened we are not there yet
GirlyGirls - But trust must be at the core of seeing God's hand in our own lives. . .
Dr. Liz - GG, do you feel you have learned discernment? Poog, do you?
GirlyGirls - If we have the interior joy of the Creator's presence within us, we can release fear.
Poog's family - Somewhat -- but with a great deal of work still to do
GirlyGirls - I'm not perfect, but discernment is at the core of all my intuitive practice and spiritual practice. .
Dr. Liz - GG, yes. I believe the HHDL has that ... the interior joy of Creator's presence. Although he may not word it that way.
GirlyGirls - It's about not being reactionary to situations and people, listening to the interior guidance when presented with a quandry of some sort
Poog's family - I think part of having to balance being in the "sandwich generation" required letting go of the small stuff.
Dr. Liz - GG, what practice or process do you use, to assist you with discerment?
Dr. Liz - Poog ... the 'sandwich generation" ???
Dr. Liz - The only thing I know to do regarding discernment, is to ask, when any voice or thought arises, "who is speaking?"
GirlyGirls - Gosh, Liz, it started years ago, awareness of discernment, probably through Ignatian Spirituality.
Poog's family - The generation that everyone relies on -- parents dying or aging and needing assistance while children still need emotional and other support.

Poog's family - Yes.
GirlyGirls - Now I always check in with the interior feeling of what is presented and how to view it. Sometimes it is too complex, because of hurt, betrayal or injustice, and, like many others, it can set me in a spin

Poog's family - It's easy to lose y ourself in that situation -- balance becomes critical and yet hard to get

GirlyGirls - And sometimes, that is the hardest lesson, the true discernment is to shake the dust from my feet and let it go and move forward . . .and let God's purpose be my energy to leave the pain and confusion behind.
Poog's family - Meep is the oldest -- four and a half. She's one of Hawgy Goldbutt's twin daughters
Dr. Liz - For me, it's the "already listening" that muddies things sometimes ... meaning, I have an incident from my past experiences, that filters the current experence.

GirlyGirls - Discernment has to begin with a prayer life, an open communication with God, a door wide open at all times. TO be conversational with the Creator, and I am, very much so
Dr. Liz - GG, can you summarize Ignatian spirituality's view on discernment here?
Dr. Liz - GG, you were answering while I was typing ... LOL ...
GirlyGirls - Of course Liz, it is so for all of us.
joyce and kitties - Well, the work to create a detach from Self is very useful.
GirlyGirls - That ability may have been lost in the brain injury, details aren't there on many things, or the connections to them are not.
joyce and kitties - in helping to let go of negative things (which one perceives are directed to a separate and independent self).
Dr. Liz - Along with the work to truly love oneself unconditionally. I'm getting better at that one now.
Poog's family - I found it interesting that it was in trying to get my daughter to let go of judgment and critical-ness, I did a better job of letting go myself.
Dr. Liz - And I'm getting better at aiming unconditional love at others,,,people, animals, situations. :)
GirlyGirls - THe Ignatian exercises are Christian based, usually done with a mentor at a kind of retreat.
joyce and kitties - Poog we teach what we need to learn?
Poog's family - It seems to be so. Or else we learn what we have to teach
GirlyGirls - One can be away from their daily life, or participating in the exercises while going about their daily grind, bringing a different consciousness to what they do in each moment.
Dr. Liz - Poog, my daughter has been an instrument for great growth on my part, too ... much of it very uncomfortable here.

joyce and kitties - Yes Liz, I think the Upper Room Spritual Center does Ignatius retreats

GirlyGirls - The flow. . .I spent years in a Jesuit Parish that was a core of my spiritual development as an adult.
GirlyGirls - Liz, look at the Jesuit center in Wernersville, PA.

Dr. Liz - Poog, what helped me tremendously with my daughter, was re-reading Carolyn Myss' book on Sacred Contracts. I mapped my archetypes, and then mapped hers, and experienced an "Ah hah OMG" moment the power of which is with me still.
joyce and kitties - The nuns are pretty cool
GirlyGirls - And St. Francis Xavier, a good friend of mine, was a right hand man to Ignatius' mission. ..and St. Damien, newly ordained was strongly devoted to St. F X. My friend Kristi brought me back things from Hawaii related to St. Damien. When Fannie was sick, she called and said she strongly got to use the things from St. Damien to help her. I played the CD of music inspired by him, sung by a choir with Hansen's disease, and Fannie got up and started getting her energy back!!
joyce and kitties - They have classes in Reiki, Tai Chi, Chi Gung etc.

Poog's family - She is growing beautifully, but every so often takes off after all of my sins she perceives

Dr. Liz - The second thing which followed that, which stunned me, was reading a book given to me by a long-time friend, student and client, on Addictions and The Addictive Personality ... I knew I had been co-dependent with my daughter, and co-dependents always are also enablers, but I didn't know how ... doing the Archetypes and then right after that, reading that book, brought me into stunned awareness and DEEP DEEP appreciation for the contracts the two of us signed on for.
